Marriage and Family Counseling

Are you in a relationship that seems to lack that loving connection it once had and you just can’t get back on track? Sometimes it takes an objective observer to help guide change and I hope to empower you to take the positive steps in your relationship that you have been wishing for over time. Our work will consist of identifying your unique relational needs, defining how to truly be fulfilled, uncovering the emotions that drive your behaviors and learning to communicate with one another so you feel understood. With a greater understanding of yourself and/or your loved ones, there can be thriving connections that foster a greater source of meaning in your life.

The counseling relationship is a collaborative one, where we go on a restorative journey together. The goal is to provide a safe, comfortable, supportive and compassionate therapeutic environment to foster healing and growth. Let’s get started today!

Connective Counseling offers marriage counseling, premarital counseling, couples counseling, family counseling, and individual counseling services in-person in Lake Saint Louis, MO and virtually across multiple states.

Your Therapist

Hello there! I’m Shera Wiscons, the owner and operator of Connective Counseling. Working with relationships is not just my profession—it’s my passion. Even as a young girl, I noticed the striking difference between couples who felt secure and connected and those who lived in distance, tension, or emotional disconnection. Those early observations planted a dream in me: to help people experience more love, safety, and closeness in their lives.

Today, I feel honored to do exactly that. I help individuals, couples, and parents understand the patterns that create loneliness or conflict, and I guide them toward the deep connection they’re longing for. Love isn’t luck—it’s a bond that can be strengthened, repaired, and rebuilt. And you don’t have to stay stuck in disconnection. There are pathways back to warmth, security, and feeling truly known.

I completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Lindenwood in St. Charles (St. Louis), Missouri and earned a Master of Arts degree at Texas State University in Professional Counseling. My education has prepared me for clinical work with couples, families, groups and individuals.

My counseling practice is informed by a foundation of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). Working from an EFT lens means I help people understand the patterns that keep them stuck, especially the emotional cycles that show up in relationships, parenting, and within themselves. Instead of just managing symptoms, I support you in getting to the heart of what’s happening underneath: the needs, fears, and longings that shape your reactions and your connections. In session, we slow things down so you can see your patterns clearly, make sense of your emotions, and begin responding from a grounded, authentic place rather than from old survival strategies. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe, understood, and supported as you learn new ways of relating, to yourself and to the people who matter most. EFT is a compassionate, science-backed approach that helps people move from disconnection to clarity, from overwhelm to confidence, and from reactive cycles to secure, meaningful connection.

Additionally, I am a certified Prepare-Enrich facilitator and strongly believe in this therapeutic tool as a means to explore the many facets of relationships and to provide concrete direction for growth. This is one of the most widely researched assessment tools and has been considered the #1 Premarital and Marriage assessment for 35 years. It is useful for therapy because it looks at specific important factors in a relationship such as: relationship roles, spiritual beliefs, family and friends, sexual expectations, financial management, communication, conflict resolution, etc. pinpointing the couples strength and growth areas. My professional experience has given me the privilege of working with people from many different walks of life, each expanding my perspective and strengthening my understanding of human connection. My work has taken me into settings such as: a children’s center, drug and alcohol treatment center, correctional facility, Catholic Diocese counseling center, corporate group events, couples workshops, and deep attachment-focused relational work through private practice.

These experiences have shaped the way I hold space: attuned, curious, and deeply invested in helping people find secure connection. My unique range of work has taught me that everyone can grow, heal, and reconnect with what matters most. If you’re considering therapy, I welcome you to reach out and take the first step.
